The History of the Department

The Department of Business Administration is the first department of the University of the Aegean and has already completed 40 years of operation from October 30th 1985 that was its official opening. The department began operating at undergraduate level in the winter semester of the same academic year (1985-86) with seven members of faculty, seven administrative staff and 103 students.

Four years later, in the fall of 1989, the Department announced its first ten graduates. Now in its fourth decade of operation, the Department has awarded more than 2,400 bachelor's degrees, 1,200 master's degrees and 120 doctoral degrees.

The Department has gradually developed and established various forms of educational operation and institutions that had an innovative character for the Greek standards. Some of these innovations were later adopted by other university departments or entire higher education institutions of the country. Among them, the following are particularly highlighted:

  • The institution of the Summer Internship for students (since 1986).
  • The establishment of the University and Business Association Committee, the educational visits to businesses in Greece and abroad and the organization of weekly lectures by invited business executives.
  • The institution of the Academic Advisor, with an emphasis on developing dialogue, co-responsibility and communication among students, faculty, and administrative staff.
  • The establishment of external advisory committees (Advisory boards).
