Who is eligible to apply for doctoral studies?
Applications are open to holders of a Master's Degree awarded by a recognized higher education institution in Greece or abroad. Graduates of integrated study programmes of at least five years' duration (300 ECTS credits) may also be eligible to apply. In certain cases, the Department Assembly may establish additional academic requirements.
When can I apply?
Applications for doctoral studies may be submitted throughout the academic year. The Department may also announce specific calls for applications with designated deadlines.
Are there any tuition fees?
No. Doctoral studies in the Department of Business Administration are offered free of charge.
What is the minimum and maximum duration of doctoral studies?
The minimum duration is three (3) full calendar years. The maximum duration is six (6) years, with the possibility of an extension of up to two (2) additional years, subject to approval by the relevant academic bodies.
Is it possible to suspend my studies?
Yes. Doctoral candidates may request a suspension of studies for a maximum period of two (2) years. Periods of suspension are not counted towards the maximum duration of studies.
How are the supervisor and advisory committee appointed?
A three-member advisory committee, including the doctoral supervisor, is appointed by decision of the Department Assembly. Committee members must possess expertise or scholarly work relevant to the subject area of the dissertation.
In which language can the doctoral dissertation be written?
The language of the dissertation is determined by the Department Assembly upon approval of the application. When the dissertation is written in a language other than Greek, an extended summary in Greek is required.
What are the obligations of doctoral candidates?
Doctoral candidates are required to submit annual progress reports, work closely with their advisory committee, and adhere to the principles of academic ethics and research integrity. They may also be asked to provide teaching support in accordance with Departmental needs and relevant academic decisions.
Can I be employed while pursuing doctoral studies?
Yes. The Doctoral Studies Regulations do not prohibit professional employment during doctoral studies. However, candidates are expected to fulfil all academic obligations and devote sufficient time to the successful completion of their research.
How are doctoral studies completed?
The doctoral dissertation is publicly defended before a seven-member examination committee. Following successful evaluation, the candidate is formally awarded the Doctoral Degree (PhD).
Where is the dissertation deposited after completion?
Following the successful completion of the evaluation process, the dissertation must be deposited in the Institutional Repository of the University of the Aegean and in the National Archive of PhD Theses.
