Doctoral Studies

The Department of Business Administration offers doctoral theses in specialties related to the scientific fields of its undergraduate and postgraduate study programs. The main objective of the Department's Doctoral Studies Program is to produce high-level scientific research (with emphasis on the publication of scientific work carried out within this framework) and to create scientists capable of contributing to the progress of education and the science of Business Administration.

ΔAnyone who holds a postgraduate diploma awarded by a Higher Educational Institution (HEI) in Greece or abroad or who is a graduate of an undergraduate HEI study program in Greece or abroad, the successful completion of which leads to the award of a single and indivisible degree, is eligible to apply for admission to the doctoral study program. The selection of doctoral candidates in the doctoral studies program is carried out by the decision of the Department Assembly.
Any interested person who meets the requirements of the doctoral studies regulations may apply to the Department Assembly for the preparation of a doctoral thesis. The application includes at least the following elements:

  • proposed title of the doctoral thesis,
  • a brief memorandum on the subject to be addressed by the doctoral thesis,
  • language of writing, which may be different from Greek,
  • proposed supervisor of the doctoral thesis, whose field of knowledge or scientific work is relevant to that of the doctoral thesis to be prepared. The application is accompanied by a detailed CV of the candidate, as well as the documents/supporting documents specified in the regulations of the study program to prove the fulfillment of the required conditions.

The time period for obtaining a doctoral degree may not be less than three (3) full calendar years from the date of appointment of the three-member advisory committee. The maximum time period for completing the doctoral thesis is six (6) calendar years. By decision of the Department Assembly, the maximum duration of the doctoral thesis may be extended, upon the request of the doctoral candidate and with the consent of the three-member advisory committee for a good reason. The maximum duration of the extension and the specific issues regarding the right to extend the duration of the doctoral thesis are specified in the Department's Doctoral Studies Regulation.

Doctoral candidates have the following obligations:

  1. submit a written, detailed progress report on their thesis on an annual basis to the three-member advisory committee and present this progress orally, in accordance with the provisions of the doctoral studies regulations,
  2. collaborate with the supervisor and the members of the advisory committee to support the preparation of their thesis,
  3. provide auxiliary teaching work in accordance with the needs of the first and second cycle study programs of the Department, upon the recommendation of the supervisor, as well as
  4. any other obligation specified by the doctoral studies regulations and the postgraduate and doctoral studies regulations.

Doctoral candidates have the rights of postgraduate study program students and any other rights specified by the doctoral studies regulations. Doctoral candidates may participate in research projects/programs of the Higher Educational Institution (HEI) and receive scholarships in the context of co-financed, self-financed or other projects/programs for the financial support of their doctoral research.

After completing the writing of the doctoral thesis and submitting the final memorandum regarding its progress to the three-member advisory committee, the doctoral candidate submits a request for public support in accordance with the provisions of the doctoral studies regulations.
