The Department of Business Administration of the University of the Aegean successfully organized its First Doctoral Candidates Symposium on 18–19 March 2026 at the “Giannis Karalis” Amphitheatre in Chios.
The Symposium was established with the aim of creating a forum that promotes in-person interaction and the exchange of knowledge, ideas, and experiences among doctoral candidates and faculty members, ultimately fostering high-quality research and strengthening the Department’s academic community.
The opening session featured welcome addresses by Professor M. Mavri, Member of the Governing Council of the University of the Aegean; Professor S. Xanthopoulos, Vice Rector for Administrative and Academic Affairs; Professor Emm. Christofakis, Dean of the School of Business; and Professor Ap. Christopoulos, Chair of the Department of Business Administration.
The objectives of the Symposium were presented by Associate Professor Ioannis Kinia, Coordinator of Doctoral Studies. The programme also included a session entitled Experiences of Department of Business Administration PhD Graduates, featuring distinguished alumni currently serving in international academic institutions. Invited speakers included Dr. Myropi Garri, Senior Lecturer at the University of Portsmouth, and Dr. Elias Kampouris, Associate Professor of Finance at Abu Dhabi University, who shared insights into their academic careers and research experiences.
A central component of the Symposium was the presentation of doctoral research progress by doctoral candidates through interactive parallel sessions that encouraged discussion, feedback, and academic mentoring.
The second day featured the special session The Art of Research: From Formulating a Research Question to Scientific Publication, delivered by Dr. Prodromos Prodromidis, Research Director at the Centre of Planning and Economic Research (KEPE). Participants also attended a Meet the Editors Session with Dr. Michael Christofi, Professor of Management at Vilnius University and Senior Editor of Information Technology & People and Associate Editor of International Marketing Review.
The Symposium concluded with the announcement of the results of the Poster Competition, which featured the participation of 40 doctoral candidates. The winner received a research award supporting participation in an international academic conference, with funding of up to €1,500.
The high quality of the presentations, the active participation of doctoral candidates, and the collaborative spirit that characterized the event highlighted the strength and vitality of the Department’s research community. The Symposium marked the beginning of a new academic tradition that is expected to further promote doctoral research, academic excellence, and scholarly collaboration within the Department.
